Rod Roddenberry will be the guest diver for a special Birch Aquarium at Scripps Comic Con Kelp Tank Dive Show on the first day of Comic Con, Thursday, July 24th. The Kelp Tank Dive Show is free with general Aquarium Admission.
Before the Kelp Tank Dive Show, join Rod and Dr. Andy Nosal at the ElasmoBeach shark exhibit at 10:30am. Guests can meet Rod Roddenberry and Dr. Nosal, learn about La Jolla’s legendary leopard sharks and other species of elasmobranchs that make their home in our local waters and about the latest in shark research, and discover why these sharks are critical to the ocean’s health.
At 12:30pm, interact with Rod while he dives in the Aquarium’s extraordinary two-story 70,000-gallon kelp forest tank filled with magnificent marine animals. Rod will explore this crucial ocean ecosystem, discuss conservation and education efforts, and dive with leopard sharks, garibaldi, eels, barracuda, giant sea bass, and more amazing sea creatures. If you can’t watch the Comic Con Kelp Tank Dive Show in person, check it out on the live Kelp Cam.
Visit the aquarium during dive show feeding times—12:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:00pm on Saturdays and 10:30am on Sundays to see these remarkable animals in action. Don’t forget to check out the outdoor tide pool overlooking the Pacific Ocean for a hands-on touch experience as you explore the aquarium. The kelp forest tank dive show is free with Aquarium admission. You can also view the kelp tank exhibits online via the Birch Aquarium’s Kelp Cam.
