View of Los Angeles from Griffith Observatory

Join Rod Roddenberry and the Roddenberry Adventures team for a day of hiking and exploration in Griffith Park. We will hike the rugged hills up to the Griffith Observatory where we will enjoy expansive views of Los Angeles. Participants will have the option to do a round trip hike, a one-way hike up to or down from the Observatory, or to drive to and from the Observatory for the exploratory tour. The full hike is approximately 7 miles round trip and  will take 5–6 hours, depending on how much time we spend exploring the Griffith Observatory. We will begin the hike at 10:00am, meet at the Obelisk around 12:30pm, and stop at The Café at the End of the Universe for a cool drink and snacks/lunch, explore and return back to our cars between 3:30pm – 5:00pm.

We can check out one of the shows in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium and talk to amateur astronomers about what is currently visible in the sky.

There is no admission charge to enter the Observatory building. Please note that everyone will be responsible for paying for food and beverages purchased at the café (between $5 and $10 per person) and for tickets to view a show at the Planetarium (tickets cost $3 – $7 per person).

Griffith Park Hike and Observatory Tour Options:

  1. Round trip hike (~ 7 miles).
  2. One-way hike up. Hike to the Observatory, spend time with the group and get picked up or take public transportation from the Observatory back home.
  3. One-way hike down. Drive up to the Observatory, meet the group and explore, hike back down and get picked up to go back home.
  4. Drive to and from the Observatory to meet the group and explore.

Participants will be responsible for transportation to and from the group hike meeting location, to or from the Observatory for the ½ hikes, or to and from the Observatory if you are not hiking and just meeting the group for the Observatory portion of the event.
